Black and White Conversion

To view the assignment in it's entirety, click here.

The conversion from color to black and white doesn't necessarily work with all photos. I seemed to find an issue with grain when converting to black and white. Some of these photos work very well with the conversion. In fact, it seems to bring out a bit of nostalgic quality; a classic look.

Acid flashback? Nah, just some fun with color editing. I actually think I might hang some up these up in my home.

I took these at a friends farm in Grafton, Illinois. I chose her barn to photograph. It was built in 1875 and has all of the original features. I found this project a bit more difficult than I anticipated due to the amount of light flooding into my camera. and the limited amount of accessibility inside the barn. I used a tripod for nearly all of the shots to get really crisp and clear shots.

I headed down on 94 North and just kept going...didn't know what I was going to find. Turns out, it was just a bunch of farmland and then the Mississippi River. Yeehaw.

Electronic Flash Assignment

These are various shots using a flash. I found that flashes tend be relatively complicated when not used to using them. I'd like to be more familiarized with this technique.

CAUTION: MEN READING INSTRUCTIONS

Photojournalism Assignment (Click HERE to view)

My sister's husband, Jerry had ordered new furniture for his home office. This is Jerry and Ali's exciting photo-journalistic tale of piecing together one particular file cabinet. (Note: The kitties helped as well).

I truly enjoyed shooting this project. It was fun to roll around on the floor and climb various pieces furniture with my camera to get interesting angles. I think I would really enjoy working in the photojournalism field.

Assignment #2 - Portraits

You can view the FULL ASSIGNMENT HERE.

Busy schedule = rushed looking product. I'll be quite honest, I did these last night. I was taking photos of my "main squeeze" doing homework and I used him for my homework. I call this "Homework On Homework". I used an ISO of 1600...which really needs to be higher in a very dim apartment at 9:30 at night, but that's as high as mine goes in my dear Canon Rebel. I think I would have enjoyed the hell out of this project if life wasn't so dang crazy.

White Balance Assignment #1

Cup O' White Balance:  Click RIGHT HERE to view assignment!

While sitting in the St. Charles County library, I captured the pure essence of this mug. Stunning, isn't it? I think it really displays my artistic capabilities (insert "Price Is Right" loser noise). On another note, it was interesting to see the many variations in light temperature and it's effect on the photo subject. I also learned how to use the Custom Light Balance setting in my camera. Woo-hoo for knowledge!
